New RFID chip technology in every Cobra seat will not only give you peace of mind – it could save your life!

Forget the aesthetics for a moment – racing seats are primarily a safety product … and choosing the right one can save your life.

Think of your seat like an extension of your race helmet – just dropping a race helmet can render it ineffective even if there doesn’t appear to be any damage. The adage “if in doubt, throw it out” is now a well respected phrase among those who place an emphasis on safety.

The integrity of your seat is equally vital.

At Cobra we can show you how to measure a seat correctly (you should fit into it as snugly as your head fits into your helmet) and recommend the most effective harnesses – and now with the introduction of RFID we can go one better.

From 2012 every Cobra seat will be fitted with a unique identification chip, which will contain the production specification, life and potentially the competition history of the seat. Using a smart phone to scan the seat will enable you to track the background of every seat:

• Who purchased it?
• When was it first installed?
• Is it still within warranty?
• Has it been involved in any major accidents?

It will enable anyone to instantly check that your Cobra seat is genuine (doubly important in view of the FIA’s latest, more stringent anti-counterfeit regulations), it will give drivers peace of mind if they change cars – and if you’re buying a seat second hand it will mean that you are not compromising your safety and can confirm the FIA hologram and label are the genuine and original items for your seat.
