Three Out Of Three For Cobra
As this years’ British Touring Car Championship approached its “summer break” the three races at Croft didn’t get off to a spectacular start for drivers in Cobra seats – although mention must be made of Ashley Sutton’s first podium finish in his Triple Eight MG6 – well done Ashley!
Things took a distinct turn for the better in race two with Team IHG Rewards Club driver Rob Collard powering his BMW 125i M Sport from fourth place to a remarkable win, with his team-mate Jack Goff claiming fourth place and fastest lap with Ashley Sutton fifth.
By the third race drivers in Cobra Seats were dominating the TV pictures for all the right reasons: Hats off to Ashley Sutton who took his maiden BTCC win (and his second podium finish of the day). The wet weather left the MG Racing RCIB Insurance driver and his MG 6 unfazed as he crossed the line followed by Sam Tordoff in second, Tom Ingram in third and Rob Collard in fourth.
So, as we hit the half-way point in the season, that means that the Championship standings are looking very good indeed for drivers using Cobra seats: Not only are all of the top three “Cobra drivers”, but six of the top seven use Cobra seats.
It’s looking good for West Surrey Racing, too with Sam Tordoff increasing his title lead over the pack with 168 points and team mate Rob Collard on 156 points in second. Matt Neal – on 153 points – is third, with Jack Goff competing WSR’s mid-term dominance in 5th, Tom Ingram in his Speedworks Toyota 6th, Ashley Sutton (Bubble Kick Racing VW CC) 7TH and Gordon Shedden in 9th.
Roll on Snetterton on 31st July!
