Keep Calm and Carry On!
After all the drama at Snetterton it was good to see ‘normality’ return to the BTCC at Knockhill.
Of course, normality for the BTCC means a great day out, some bruising encounters, close racing and – almost inevitably – three different winners.
It wasn’t the greatest day for Rob Collard who finished a very disappointing 17th in the first race of the day and – despite a great drive in race two which saw him rise from 17th on the grid to finish in 5th – was tagged in race 3 to see him retire on lap 8 with terminal damage to his WSR BMW. It was a day that meant Rob loses his lead in the championship standings to team mate Sam Tordoff.
In race 1 a late appearance of the safety car gave Jack Goff in his WSR BMW the opportunity to put in a late charge which saw him finish second just half a second down on the race winner.
Race 2 saw Matt Neal rise through the ranks from 8th on the grid to win by just over a second from fellow ‘Cobra’ driver Sam Tordoff.
Just 1.2 seconds separated the first four cars in race 3 with Sam Tordoff picking up his second ‘second’ of the day to add to a fifth place in race one. Team Dynamics Honda drivers Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal came in fourth and fifth with Rob Austin sixth.
It was a day which shuffled the pack at the top of the driver rankings – but still with drivers who choose Cobra Seats sitting pretty in the top four places: Sam Tordoff is enjoying his best ever season in BTCC and leads the field by nine points from Cobra veteran Matt Neal, with Rob Collard a further 23 points behind in third and Gordon Shedden in fourth.
